All of us have these qualities to different degrees. Sattva is the most sought after quality as it is peaceful, calm and harmonious. Rajas is more active, enthusiastic, spicy so to speak! Tamasic quality is heavy, dull, tending toward inertia. Through short discussion and soothing practice you will have the opportunity to dive into your internal landscape discovering where your mind sits and engaging in practice that will bring harmony, light and balance.

IMG_1313

In this workshop you will discover the connection between Ayurveda and Yoga as it relates to Yoga practice. How your particular constitution: Vata, Pitta, Kapha and or a combination of each plays a role in determining which type of yoga practice is best for you.  Not only taking your particular constitution into account but also the current season, time of life and time of day.  Our focus will be on the Vata Dosha and perhaps Kapha Dosha depending on the weather that weekend!

We will then flow into a seasonal balancing yoga practice designed to balance the qualities that are residing inside our bodies as a result of what’s happening in our external environment.  Lets see what the weekend brings!  One of the beauties of Ayurveda, living in harmony with nature.

An Introduction to Ayurveda, Yoga and the 20 Gunas

IMG_3181

The origins of both Ayurveda and Yoga stretch back over 5000 years ago. Ayurveda being one of the oldest sciences for healing; yoga the oldest spiritual discipline that harmonizes mind and body. Both practices striving for the same outcome, health and balance in body, mind and spirit. Accordingly, it only makes sense that when practicing yoga, we incorporate the age old tools of Ayurveda into our practice.

In this workshop, you will discover the connection between Ayurveda and Yoga as it relates to Yoga practice. How your particular constitution: vata, pitta, kapha and or a combination of each, plays a role in determining which type of yoga practice is best for you. Not only taking your constitution into account but also the current season and time of day.

We will dive deep into the 20 gunas or qualities that make up each constitution coming to an understanding how these gunas show up on our yoga mats, in the foods we eat, the way we interact with people and so much more!

Once your tool box is full, you will have the chance to fully immerse yourself in a seasonal ayurvedic yoga practice that will focus on balancing Vata, the predominant winter constitution. Practice will be a slow nourishing flow followed by grounding asana, pranayama and savasana.

By the end of this workshop, you will know your particular constitution as it relates to your gunas, become familiar with practicing yoga according to your constitution and have the tools to balance your particular qualities both “On and Off” the Yoga Mat!
